James “Jimmy” Allan Lesley, Sr. a loving husband, father, and grandfather of Easley, South Carolina entered Heaven’s Gates at the age of 79 on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of the late Jasper “J.P.” Pharaoh Lesley and the late Mary Etta Turpin Lesley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Ann Lesley, and a brother, Donnie Lesley.
Jimmy was an entrepreneur and successful businessman. He and a childhood friend, Bobby Brown, were co-owners of Village Park Hardware from 1969 to 1996, and he worked with his father and brother at Lesley Construction Company for over 20 years. He was co-owner and President of Steelworks of the Carolinas, Inc., a business he started in 1986 with his brother Donnie. He was a hardworking man and a great provider for his family.
He attended Clemson University and East Tennessee State University. He was an avid Clemson fan. He enjoyed dining out with family and friends. He also loved traveling the United States and abroad with his wife, Judy, who affectionately called him “Lardypoo”. He treasured his grandchildren and was a great mentor to them. They loved their Papa and will always cherish his many memories. Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his many memories are his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Berg Lesley; his daughters, Kim Kennedy (James) and Michelle Dove; his son, James “J.J.” Lesley, (Rhonda); his seven grandchildren, Jamie Kennedy, Chandler Dove (Molly), Cameron Dove, Christopher Dove, Carey Lesley, Daniel Lesley, and Micah Lesley, as well as three sisters Joan DeLoache, Debbie Tiller and Kay Lesley. Also, to cherish Jimmy’s memories are the wonderful employees at Steelworks of the Carolinas, who held a special place in his heart. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends between 1:30 – 2:45 PM on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley. The funeral service to honor Jimmy’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, following the visitation, with Rev. Nick McClellan officiating.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Agape Hospice Care. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Agape Care South Carolina.
