JAMES H. NICHOLSON Clemson
James Harvey Nicholson, Ph.D., husband of Meredith Andrews Nicholson, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Oconee Medical Center in Seneca. A native of Texas, he was the son of the late Morris E. and Lottie Chancellor Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson retired after a long teaching career as a mathematics professor at Clemson University. He had previously taught at the University of Texas. He was a member of the American Mathematical Society and was the first Honors Professor to be selected by Students of Calhoun Honors Division of Clemson University. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and served in the U. S. Navy. He was also a long time member of the Western Carolina Sailing Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Harvey Nicholson of Clemson.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 6, at 2:00pm at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church cemetery in Pendleton. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall in Clemson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 193 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC 29631.
