James Peck "Jim" Nickless

James Peck “Jim” Nickless, 81 of Central, husband to the late Jean Lanham Nickless, passed away August 7, 2026.

Born in La Grange, IL, he was the son of Vernon Joseph Nickless, Jr. and Dorothy Peck Chidester Nickless. Jim graduated from Furman University before being drafted into the United States Army and received his graduate degree in business from Georgia State. Jim went on to a career in technology operations and distribution, eventually retiring from Internet Security Systems. After spending 22 years in Marietta, GA raising their family, he and Jean retired to Lake Hartwell near Clemson. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father & grandfather aka G-pa. Jim had a love for model trains, photography, travelling and going on international cruises with his wife, he was an avid gardener, an excellent handyman, and a big fan of Clemson football and baseball. He was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Clemson, where he sang in the choir.

He is survived by his children, Daniel James Nickless and wife, Laurie of Central and Kate Nickless Hutto and husband, Beau of Atlanta; grandchildren, Charley Grace Hutto and Harry James Hutto. Jim is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, who were Daniel High School sweethearts, his parents, and siblings, Tom Nickless and twin sister, Jane Lakins.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Clemson. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center.

A private burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
