Mr. James Austin Phillips, 86, husband of Betty Jo Spence Phillips, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Clayton, GA, a son of the late Joe Speed Spence and the late Cora Emma Lee Grant Phillips, Mr. Phillips retired from the Judson Plant of Milliken Mills and was a US Army Veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of sixty-eight years, are a grandson, Mitchell Austin Phillips (Jessica Fredericks) of Piedmont; a brother, William Monroe Phillips; three sisters, Agnes Lee Freeman, Clara Jo Johnson and Katherine Bishop; and one great-grandson, Malachi Austin Phillips. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Diane Phillips; two brothers, Roy B. Phillips and Zane Grant; and two sisters, Betty Brezeale and Sarah Prior.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Graceland Cemetery West, Greenville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown Easley, prior to the graveside service.

The family is at the home.
