James E. Porter

James Edward Porter, 90, of 712 Williams Street, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at NHC Anderson.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late William Alonzo and Mary Sentell Porter. James was a retired Textile Manager with J.P. Stevens and was a member of LaFrance First Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran and P.O.W. during WWII, who fought in the European Theatre and was wounded and captured during the Battle of the Buldge. He was an avid gardener, devoted church member and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving are his son, Larry E. (Connie)Porter of Cornelia, GA; daughter, Betty (Ed) Milam of Watkinsville, GA; brother, Bill Porter of Anderson; sisters Myrtis Donovan of Groton, CT and Velma Gunter of Hartwell, GA; grandchildren, Natalie (Scott) Etheridge, Nathan (Noelle) Porter, Cassie (Matthew) Nunn; great grandchildren, Abigail Nunn, Samantha Nunn, Kaitlyn Nunn, Bennett Etheridge, Sydney Etheridge, Chase Porter and Addison Porter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Sybil Traynum Porter; brother Horace Porter; and sisters Addie Spearman, Ollie Bell Sullivan and Mary Jane Crowe.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Tuesday in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with Revs. Albert Couch and Gene Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:50, Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
