Vernon Rathburn

James Vernon Rathburn, 92, of Joan Drive, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife, India Smith Rathburn, on Sunday, May 13, 2018 following a brief illness.
Mr. Rathburn was a faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, the Disciples for Christ Sunday School Class, and was a WWII US Army Veteran. He retired from E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, NC. He and his wife were dedicated Christians sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.
Born in Yancey County, NC, he was a son of the late Reggie and Laura Ogle Rathburn.
Surviving are his children, Joanie R. Scruggs and husband, Terry, of Easley and Dean Rathburn, and wife Allyson, of Leland, NC; a daughter-in-law, Pepper Rathburn, of Leland, NC; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two special nieces, Doris Wheeler and Phyllis Ray both of Burnsville, NC.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he was predeceased by a son, Reggie W. Rathburn, Sr.; a sister, Madge McMahan; and brothers, Carl and Earl Rathburn.
A service to celebrate Mr. Rathburn's life will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church with burial to follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens with military honors.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM until 1:15 PM at the Church.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642.
The family will be at the home.
