James Lee Shirley, II., 56, of Powdersville, South Carolina, loving husband of Kristi Witcher Shirley, passed away on September 16, 2023.

Born on August 29, 1967, in Greenville, South Carolina, a son of the late James Lee and Bettie Hicks Shirley. James leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and selflessness that will forever be cherished. James dedicated his life to the noble profession of nursing. He pursued his passion by obtaining a bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. With his extensive knowledge and unwavering desire to help those in need, James made a significant impact on the lives of countless patients and their families. Throughout his career as a Registered Nurse, James displayed nothing but steadfast dedication and empathy. He possessed an innate ability to connect with others on a profound level, offering comfort and support during some of life's most challenging moments. Known for his gentle touch and soothing words, James had an exceptional gift for making every patient feel heard, valued, and cared for. Outside of his professional life, James was a beloved husband and father. His love for his family was boundless, as he constantly showered them with affection and devotion. He was more than just a provider; he was their rock – someone they could always rely on for guidance and support. In addition to being an exceptional nurse and family man, James had numerous hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. He took immense pride in maintaining his yard to perfection – it was a testament to his meticulous nature. His dedication did not stop there; he poured the same love and care into caring for his beloved pets. From two loyal dogs who were always by his side to two cheerful birds brightening up the household with their song and even a beautiful koi pond that became a serene oasis under his watchful eye – James created a haven filled with love and harmony. He was a former deacon and member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Remembered for his kindness, generosity, and selflessness, James touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his loved ones, colleagues, and all those fortunate enough to have met him. James Lee Shirley leaves behind a profound void, but his legacy of compassion and love will continue to inspire generations to come.


In addition to his wife of 34 years, he is survived by his children, Carson Shirley, and Emma McCain (Duncan); and a sister, Ann Ray (Stanley).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Jan Lasater.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 12:30 PM until 2:15 PM at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM in the sanctuary. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.
