James J. Snyder

James J. Snyder, 85, beloved husband of Joyce M. Snyder, died on Monday, May 12, 2008, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Durbin, West Virginia, June 22, 1922, he was a son of the late Roy and Myra Kelly Snyder. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Coast Guard. Following the war, he worked for the Veteran's Administration in Washington DC, where he met and married the former Irene Capes. Mr. Snyder received a degree in accounting from Strayer Business College and was a Budget and Finance Officer for the Water Resources Branch, Geological Survey, US Department of Interior in Washington, DC. Following his retirement in 1978, he and Irene moved to Easley, SC, where he was a former Director of the Easley Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Easley and the Mt. Olivet Sunday School Class. Mr. Snyder was married to his wife, Irene, for forty-six years before her death in 1994. He and the former Joyce McJunkin McDaniel began their journey together while working on a Habitat House. They were married for twelve years.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Snyder of Anderson; his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Rex Meade of Greenville; four grandchildren, Robby Snyder of Aberdeen, NC, Jeff Snyder of Seneca, SC, Karen Snyder of Southern Pines, NC, and Dennis Teasley of Las Vegas, NV; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and his sister-in-law, Mary Snyder of Davidsonville, MD.
Also sharing this loss is Joyce's family including: her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Larry Sons of Easley; her mother, Ruby McJunkin; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Gary Rhyne, Brenda and David Fowler, Lynn and Jack Boggs; and her brother and sister-in-law, Jay Allen and Mary Jo McJunkin.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Snyder was predeceased by a brother, John S. Snyder.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Easley. The Reverend Jim Correll will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
