James “Gilbert” Vehorn, formerly of Easley,
passed away on May 24, 2022. He was 93. Gilbert was
the son of the late James Felder and Ethel Cheek Vehorn
and the husband of the late Faye Garland Vehorn.
Gilbert was born on October 28,1928 in Greenville, SC.
He was predeceased by his sister, Nell Vehorn Smith
and his brother, Charles Ray Vehorn.
Gilbert learned printing as a trade at Greenville High School. He was retired from
Clemson Printers and an avid Clemson Tiger fan. He was involved as a Scout Leader
with his son and grandson. As an outdoorsman, he loved gardening, hunting, and,
most of all, fishing. No doubt there’s a lake with a boat in heaven for this loving and
special man.
He’s survived by his daughter, Connie (Susie) McAtee
(husband David) of Greer, and his son, Mike Vehorn of Anderson.
Also granddaughters, Christie Zerkel (husband Doug) of Cumming,
GA and Morgan Usery of Greenville, grandson Matthew Vehorn
(wife Megan) of Greenville, great grandsons, Jake Zerkel of Athens, GA
and Callen Usery of Greenville, and great granddaughter, Kara Zerkel of
Cumming.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers at NHC Greenville and Greenville Glen.
The family will have a private scattering of his ashes. Memorials can be made to
Pickens County Meals on Wheels, 349 Edgemont Ave., Liberty, SC 29657.
