James W. Allsep, 91, widow of the late Edna Burgess Allsep, passed away May 15, 2018 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Harriet Leopard Allsep. James was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the UDT 12 and was presented a Presidential Unit Citation for participation in the following operations, The Capture of Iwo Jima and The Okinawa Operation. He also received the Bronze Star Medal.
James retired from Wolf Creek Power Plant in Kansas.
Surviving are his 2 daughters, Sandra Gilstrap and her husband Lane, of Central and Sherry Corlis and her husband Jeff, of Waverly, Kansas; five grandchildren, Monica, Daniela, Kayla, Kirsten and Kenzie; seven great grandchildren, Haley, Cody, Emma, Abi, Malia, Abby and Tyra; seven great great grandchildren, Colton, Ryan, Kayden, Brilyn, Landyn, Sawyer, and Easton; and his 2 sisters, Jeanette Mitchell, of Six Mile and Evelyn Nicholson, of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 2:00 - 2:45pm at the funeral home.
