James Waddington

Mr. James Waddington, 82, of Clemson, SC passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

James "Jim" was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England and is the son of the late John and Elizabeth Waddington.

He had a lifelong career in textile machinery design in which he began working at the age of 15. His education was obtained in England and included an Honors Degree in Textile Engineering from Manchester University as well as a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Bolton College. His career brought him to the United States where he retired from Platt Saco-Lowell in Easley as Director of Development Engineering.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eunice and two children, David Waddington and wife Lori of Easley, Elizabeth Anne Styles and husband Kade of Simpsonville. In addition he was the proud grandfather of five granddaughters, Ashley, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Gwyneth, and Carys.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his gentle kindness, quick wit, and overflowing sense of humor.

The family would like to thank all of those involved in his care, especially Dr. Walls, Dr. Terry and staff at the Cancer Centers of the Carolinas as well as the loving family, friends, and colleagues for their concern and support.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, April 22 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Church or Cancer Centers of the Carolinas.
