Jane Owen Duckworth, age 87, of Clemson, SC passed away from this life on May 31, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ed Duckworth. She is survived by her sister, Nan Wilson of Newport Beach, CA, three children (Jim, Jeff, and Leeanne), seven grandchildren (Alex, Aly, Haley, Jake, Kaitlyn, Trace, and Mary Elaina), and two great-grandchildren (Lily and Scottie).
A native of Chase City, VA, attended Chase City High school where she graduated as a valedictorian. Jane graduated from Meredith College, Raleigh, NC with a degree in education. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in Clemson, SC. She was a beloved teacher until she decided to be a stay-at-home mom after having children.
Jane always put family first. This led to thousands of miles behind the wheel of a car traveling to baseball games, softball games, basketball games, and tennis tournaments. If there was something one of her kids wanted to do, she was always willing to go the extra mile to make it happen.
Outside of family, her biggest passion was Clemson University. A member of the President’s Leadership Circle, she co-chaired the Will to Lead athletics capital campaign committee; was chair of the tennis capital campaign committee; and supported the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, scholarships for the College of Business and Behavioral Science, and the Samuel J Cadden Chapel. This involvement led to her being named Clemson University Honorary Alumni in 2016.
Services will be held Saturday, June 13 @ 2:00 pm at First Baptist Clemson, SC, followed by a gathering in the church’s fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations be made to the Duckworth Family Tennis Endowment, First Baptist Church of Clemson, or Cottingham Hospice House.
