Janet Eileen Mueller (nee Pickersgill), 67, of Clarkesville, GA, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Clemson Downs Area Retirement Center, Clemson, SC, after a long illness.
Born in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Eric A. and Ruth M. Pickersgill. She was a graduate of Ohio University, and taught in various elementary and junior high schools while accompanying her husband throughout a military career. She was a volunteer in Air Force Family Support Centers and a dedicated champion of families and children. Before her retirement in 2004 she was Director of the Child Care Centers at the Pentagon and Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her husband of over 41 years, Col (Ret) Timothy A. Mueller of Clarkesville, GA, a son, Brian T. Mueller and his wife Nickie of Clemson, SC; a daughter, Jill M. Bender and her husband, Kevin, of Decatur, GA; two sisters, Nancy R. Keeney of Evansville, IN and Sara L. Shaner of Mentor, OH; and four grandchildren, Eric and Olivia Mueller and Audrey and Matthew Bender.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 8, 2011 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC. A reception will be held immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her honor to the Fisher House Foundation, which supports military families in time of need.
