Janie Clement Dillon was born on October 14, 1931, in Dallas, Texas. The daughter of Adam and Elaine Clement, she was raised in Charlotte, N.C.
She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out; a spiritual soul who believed in the dignity of most humans and the goodness of animals, especially dogs. She married her best friend, Ron Dillon in 1951, and held his hand through life and marriage until he passed away in May, 2020. They had two children, “Bub” Dillon, (Janet Gambrell) and Kathy Dillon Gaughf (Paul); three grandchildren, Phoebe, Olivia, and Luke.
The granddaughter of a sea captain, and the daughter of an adventuresome father and mother, Janie was admired and loved by many who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren, niece, nephews, and friends. Janie was well regarded for many years as the assistant to the Dean of Sciences at Clemson University and advisor to pharmacy students as well as pre-PT students. She was also named Woman of the Year at Clemson University in 1992-3. She had a generous and considerate nature, and a spirited and infectious laugh which she shared with abundance. Janie believed in equality of and for all people, and fought resolvedly for women’s and racial rights. She was smart, generous, kind, and funny.
May peace be with you Mom, as you settle into your kinder, gentler place.
