Jason Leland Smith, 76, of 117 Wedgewood Drive, dearly beloved husband of Carolyn Burdette Smith, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Brevard, NC, a son of the late Jess Allen and Lilly Mae Orr Smith, Mr. Smith was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College and retired as a teacher and coach with Pickens Junior High School after thirty years of service. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where he was past chairman of the Administrative Board and teacher of the Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class. Mr. Smith was a member of Gideons International and Kairos Prison Ministries.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Burdette Smith of the home; a son, Rev. Reginald "Reggie" Robert Smith (Ginger) of Greenville; a daughter, Angela Ruth Scott (James Curtis) of Easley; a brother, Ernest Smith (Mary) of Lehigh, FL; a sister, Lucy Parris (Bill) of Brevard, NC; and three grandchildren, Alexis Elizabeth Scott, James Tyler Scott and Emily Michelle Smith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by four brothers, Allen, Frank, David and Fred Smith and by a sister, Leona Mae Pressley.

Memorial services wil be 3:00 PM Sunday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Cannon officiating. Private committal services will be held at a later date.

Members of the Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class along with Edgar Cox, Doug Lollis, Rev. Julian Ford, Rev. Bruce Cleasby, Fred Owens, Ned Owens and Jimmy Owens are invited to serve as honorary escorts.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Sunday at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 309 Pelzer Highway, Easley, SC 29642.

The family is at the residence.
