Jean Childress, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at the remarkable age of 96. Born on September 26, 1928, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Waldo and Minnie Jones, Jean lived a perfectly sweet, simple, and impactful life.
Jean was the heart and soul of her home, radiating warmth and joy to all who knew her. She possessed a spirit that was a beautiful blend of love, humor, and sass, often delighting those around her with her quick wit and playful banter. Her vibrant personality brought light into the lives of many, making even simple moments feel special.
Throughout her life, Jean found happiness in the simple pleasures; she loved spending time at the beach, her laughter echoing against the waves, and her smile shining bright while spending time with family and friends. Her beautiful yard was a testament to her nurturer's touch, blooming with life just like the many rich relationships she cultivated. Jean cherished the memories she made traveling with her daughter and her closest friends, adventures that filled her heart with cherished moments she held dear.
One of her proudest accomplishments was the remarkable 77-year marriage she shared with her beloved husband, Bill. Their love story was one for the ages—filled with tender moments, shared dreams, and an unwavering bond. Bill lovingly referred to her as "momma," a title that spoke to the depth of his affection and admiration for her. Together, they crafted a life many aspire to, exemplifying the beauty of partnership and devotion.
Though Jean did not have siblings, she was surrounded by a loving circle of cousins and friends she held close to her heart, often considering them sisters. The connections she fostered throughout her life reflected her generous spirit, emphasizing the importance of family and friendship that defined her world.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Jodi Connis, and her husband, David, along with her special little dog, Harper.
She is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, her husband, William “Bill” Childress, and her son, Michael Childress.
