Jean Burrell Lawrimore, 88 of Clemson, SC formerly of Stateburg, SC passed away Thursday, July 18. She was the widow of the late Carl Bentley Lawrimore, Sr.
Born in Hendersonville, NC Jean was the daughter of the late William Lloyd and Ressie Perkins Burrell. She graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1948 and from Furman University in 1952.
For many years Jean, Carl and the family lived in Lee and Sumter counties where she was a reporter and then Editor of the Lee County Messenger. In Sumter, Jean worked for Sumter School District II and became Personnel Director for the district.
She was active in her church, The Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal, serving on the vestry and the altar guild. Jean was also a volunteer for the Sumter County Red Cross and for the United Ministries of Sumter County.
Jean is survived by her children Robin Mahony (Bob) of Clemson, Ben Lawrimore (Jan) of Six Mile, and Brantley Lawrimore (Patti) of Anderson.
She has three grandchildren Allison Iori (Tim), Marion Corontzes (Zach) and Dr. William Lawrimore (Courtney) as well as four great-grand children, Maddie, Timothy, Sophie and Emma.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Holy Cross in Stateburg, SC on Tuesday, July 23 at 2:00 PM with burial in the church cemetery and visitation following committal at the Parish House.
