Jean Hardaway Mertens, 74, formerly of Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA, lost her battle with Multiple Sclerosis on June 6, 2006.
Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late Edwin B. and Alma Harris Hardaway. She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Allison Mertens, of Greenville, SC; and a grandson, James McCoy Mertens. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stuart Henry Mertens, Jr., and a brother, Edwin B. Hardaway, Jr.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 9, 2006 at Augusta Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
A graveside service will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2006 at Riverview Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Mid-Atlantic Chapter; 9801-I Southern Pines Boulevard; Charlotte, NC 28273.
The family is at the home of Kevin and Allison Mertens, Greenville, SC.
