Jeanne Briggs

January 1, 1955 — March 8, 2018

Dr. Jeanne A. Briggs
Clemson, SC

Dr. Jeanne A. Briggs ('nee Andrishok) was born on January 1, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, to parents Virginia Davis and Emerson Andrishok.

Jeanne lived in many places throughout her life, but perhaps her two favorite were San Jose, California and Clemson, South Carolina. Jeanne graduated from Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose, California, in 1972, then attended the University of California-Santa Cruz before transferring to Clemson University, where she eventually attained three degrees including her PhD in plant physiology in 2001. Jeanne loved all life (though plants and cats may have been her favorite), was a phenomenal cook, an expert shell-collector (having found three junonias during her trips to Sanibel Island, Florida), and was an avid traveler. She loved the great outdoors, sailing, John Steinbeck, doted constantly on her grandson, and was a devotee of Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead, and Meher Baba (though not necessarily in that order). A brilliant and earnest person, Jeanne could move mountains with her will. Jeanne is remembered by numerous friends and volunteers she cultivated through her work at Clemson University (whom she frequently referred to as some of the best people she'd ever known).

She will be deeply missed by her mother Virginia Davis and step-father Chuck Davis (Tryon, NC); and her daughter Rachel V. Briggs, her husband Andrew Draughon, and their son Charlie Briggs-Draughon (Chapel Hill, NC). Jeanne is also remembered by her younger brother Emerson Andrishok and his wife, Penny Parks-Andrishok (Iowa City, Iowa).

She was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Larry Atkinson, who died in December 2017.

A celebration commemorating both their lives will be held March 17, 2018, from 2-4 pm in the social room at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson, 230 Pendleton Road, Clemson, SC 29631.
