Margaret Jeanne Ferree Gentry, age 86, of 204 Andrew Avenue, wife of the late Thomas Frank Gentry for 43 years, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at her home.

Born in Grover, North Carolina, Mrs. Gentry was the daughter of the late Charles Newton Ferree and the late Terah Pinkelton Ferree Wooten. She graduated from Blacksburg High School, where she played basketball, and she had the good fortune of being coached as well as taught in the classroom by her mother.

Jeanne spent several summers of her youth in Atlanta with her Aunt and Uncle, Annalee and Harvey Badon. She attended finishing school while in Atlanta. Spending time in Atlanta afforded her the opportunity to establish a friendship with noted author, Margaret Mitchell.

Mrs. Gentry received her Associates Degree from Gardner-Webb, and she attended Limestone College. She spent most of her career as a Librarian and Study Hall Teacher at Gettys Middle School in the Pickens County School District. She also taught at Croswell Elementary School. Mrs. Gentry was a longtime member of Easley First United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling in Canada, and in the Eastern and Midwestern United States.

Surviving are one son, T. Frank Gentry, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Pendleton.

Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in Grover Cemetery, 204 Bethlehem Church Road, Grover, N.C. 28073 with the Reverend Foster Gentry officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

The family wishes to express special thanks to her caregivers, South Carolina Home Health Care, who provided tremendous support, especially, Wendy, Wendy, and Amanda, as well as to Interim Hospice, especially Nurse Julie.

Jeanne was also assisted by her special cousin, Ms. Pat Choate, and longtime friend, Art Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Easley First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 589, Easley, SC 29641.
