Mr. Jerry Wayne Burgess, 62, of Easley, formerly of Marietta, SC, loving husband of Emily King Burgess, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015.


Jerry was born in Greenville County on March 17, 1953 to the late Alden "Red" Theodore and Kathleen Reynolds Burgess. He graduated from Slater-Marietta High School and was a driver for Southeastern Freight Lines. He was always there when you needed him, and family was his most important thing in his life. He was a mason, and in his free time he enjoyed computers, astronomy, science fiction, and reading. Jerry was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving four years as a Personnelman on a submarine.  


In addition to his loving wife of 22 years, Jerry is survived by a step-son; Charles "Chad" Bartlett of Greenville; a step-daughter; Christina Rentz (Clyde), of Simpsonville; a sister; JoNell Hart (Lewis), of Marietta; two special nephews; Tim and Justin Hart; and two brothers-in-law; David Lee King of Easley, and Charles R. King of Simpsonville.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; Donald R. Burgess.


Memorial Services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642.


The family requests that employees of Southeastern Freight Lines serve as Honorary Pallbearers.


The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Funeral Home.


The family is at the residence.


Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Anderson County P.A.W.S., 1320 US-29 BUS, Anderson, SC 29626.
