Jerry R. Gray, 82, of Piedmont, South Carolina, loving husband of Wylene Carnes Gray, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Rayburn and Willene Shaver Gray. Jerry lived a life filled with compassion and dedication to others.
In his professional life, Jerry dedicated years of service to Albany International before retiring in 2005. However, his true passion lay in his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always putting their needs above his own. Outside of work and family life, Jerry found solace in various hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. He had a deep love for fishing, finding peace and tranquility by the water's edge. But beyond his personal pursuits, Jerry's heart of service shone brightly through his involvement with the Southern Baptist Associations Disaster Relief Team and Carpenters for Christ. Through these organizations, Jerry traveled far and wide, lending a helping hand to those in need both in the USA and across the globe. His compassionate spirit touched the lives of many in Panama, Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, and Russia. His dedication to serving others knew no bounds. Jerry was a devoted member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where his faith guided his actions every day. He was an active participant in the Fellowship Sunday School Class and served as an Usher.
In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Jerry is survived by two daughters, Angela Marie Gray (Ziggy) of Honea Path, South Carolina and Denise Rhodes (Frank) of Piedmont, South Carolina; and two grandchildren McKenzie Rhodes and Will Rhodes (Audrey).
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, W.L. Gray.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 1:15 PM at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery – West.
