Jesse Augustus Cranford, Sr, 89, of Central passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at AnMed Health in Anderson, SC. He was born on September 27, 1916 in Albemarle NC. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and later with Pan Am Airways in Liberia, Africa as air traffic controller. He retired from Cannon Mills after 46 years and most recently was employed by Winn Dixie in Clemson until 2003. He was Mayor of Central and town councilman; charter member of American Legion Post 151 and VFW Post 9096 and active on the regional HUD board.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Pearl Ada Caldwell Cranford of the Sterling House, 5 children, Frances "Punky" Morgan of Kannapolis, NC, Jesse A "Sonny" Cranford, Jr of Central, Betty Christian of Vero Beach, FL, Lucy Arthur of Central and Tamara Sterling of Central, brother Zemy Colin "Buck" Cranford of Rockwell, NC, and sister Goldia Cruse of Concord, NC, and 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by brother William Jefferson Cranford, sisters Rachel Wade Cranford, Dorothy Cranford Schenck and Mary Cranford Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 28th in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with interment at Memory Gardens in Clemson. Visitation will be at 2:00 PM in the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 338 Central, SC 29630.
