Jesse Simmons, 100 years old and loving father, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, SC, Jesse was the son of the late, John and Mary Simmons. He was employed with Cannon Cotton Mills in Central, SC for fifty years until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Central Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Simmons Lesley of Dacusville and Jane Simmons Wood (Morris) of Six Mile; eight grandchildren, Karen Holbrooks (Tony), Chip Lesley, Heath Lesley, Samantha Wood McLarty (Charlie), Jessica Wood Lenox (Gunner), Lindsey Wood Burns (Duncan), Danny Simmons (Gina)and Mandy Simmons; fourteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of forty eight years, Mattie Crane Simmons, as well as a daughter, Shelby Jean Simmons who died at birth, and son, Jesse Junior Simmons and seven siblings.
"Papa Jess" devoted his life to his family, was fiercely loyal, deeply loving, principled, courageous and thankful for the many joys of life. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, cooking, gardening and his pet birds. He was also a lifelong fisherman who loved spending time at local lakes throughout SC.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Memory Gardens, Clemson.
The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
