Jim T. Long, PHD, 82, of 108 Mitchell Avenue and husband of Betty Dickson Long died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Central, S.C., a son of the late W. Homer and Ollie Mae Simpson Long. He was retired after 42 years as a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University. He was a graduate of Clemson University, class of 1943, and earned his masters and doctorate degrees from Georgia Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the combat Air Services in the Philippines and retired as a Commander from the U. S. Naval Reserve. Jim was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, Clemson Fellowship Club, Clemson Rotary Club, life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and continued to work with the National Counsel of Engineering Examinations. He was also a member of the Clemson Aero Club and was a private pilot. Jim enjoyed plants and flowers, reading and puzzles, bridge, golf and all sports.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and Clemson Tiger. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by son Jim T. Long, MD., wife Cathy Long, M.D., granddaughters Mary Elizabeth Long and Carrie Mae Long of Franklin, N.C. and brother Joe S. Long and wife Maria Long of Greensboro, N.C.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Piedmont. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson Community Care, 105 Anderson Highway, Clemson, SC 29631. Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
