Mrs. Joan E. Williams Turner, 87, of Greenville, formerly of the Bronx, NY, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare Greenville, East.
Joan was born in the Bronx, NY on January 7, 1928 to the late Henry C. and Ruth Williams. She served as an organizer in the 1199 Union from 1968 until 1971, and served as the President of Wyandanch and on the PTA/PTSA Counsel form 1984 until 1986. She was the assistant administrator for Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Greenville, and in her free time loved the arts, especially crocheting, ceramics, and writing. Mrs. Turner was a member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Greenville.
Mrs. Turner is survived by a son; Michael E. Turner of Bronx, NY; five daughters; Jean E. Turner Kelly of Brooklyn, NY; Madeline Alice Simmons of Queens,NY; Angela Ernestine Edmond of Piedmont, SC; Delores Ruth Moore, (Leonard); and Cheryl Ann Turner, both of Queens, NY. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son; Theodore Turner; and two brothers, Henry Williams, Jr and Harold Williams.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
