Joann Cobb

June 1, 1929 — December 15, 2025

Easley, South Carolina

Jo Ann McCall Cobb, born June 1, 1929, of Easley, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Jo Ann was a woman of deep faith, lifelong learning, and devoted service to others, both within her church and throughout the wider community. She was an avid reader and a longtime member of the Easley Book Club. A faithful member of Easley First Baptist Church, she served for more than fifty years as a Sunday School teacher for adults, touching countless lives through her teaching, wisdom, and compassion. She was known for her spirit of acceptance, welcoming people exactly as they were and creating spaces where all felt seen, valued, and loved. She loved theology and meaningful conversation and regularly hosted discussion groups in her home, creating a welcoming place for fellowship, learning, and spiritual growth. Her faith guided every part of her life. Though she changed her favorite scripture weekly, Philippians 4:8 remained her all-time favorite: “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Jo Ann was deeply committed to serving beyond the church walls. During the AIDS epidemic, she facilitated support groups for those affected, offering dignity, care, and understanding. Her compassion was rooted in acceptance rather than judgment, and she believed love should always come first. She was instrumental in establishing community outreach efforts and worked with high-risk youth, always guided by compassion, grace, and hope.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers; her beloved husband, John Carlyle Cobb, Sr.; and a daughter, Melinda Jo Cobb.

Surviving are her children: Gail Cobb King and her husband, Phillip, of Easley; Karen Cobb Harvey and her husband, Gernon, of Denver, NC; and John Carlyle Cobb, Jr., of Easley. She was lovingly known as “Jo” to her grandchildren: Melinda King Savage and her husband, David; Dr. Charles King, Jr. and his wife, Wendy; Mandy King Norris and her husband, Patrick; Joey Painter and his wife, Dasha; Dusty Painter and his wife, Betsay; Carly Painter Jones and her husband, Colin; Valerie Painter Kennedy and her husband, Billy; Wesley Painter; Dana Harvey Archer and her husband, Brian; and Sara Harvey. One of the greatest joys of her later life was her great-grandchildren: Phillip Savage, Riggs Savage, Lillian Savage, McCall King, Kendall Gail Norris, Charles Patrick Norris, Ann Carlyle Norris, Xavier Paddie, Jackson Painter, Emma Jo Painter, Ruby Painter, Jasper Jones, Spell Jones, Esme Archer, and Rory Archer.
