Pickens

Joe Earl Garrett, 82, of Pickens, a man of unwavering strength and a strict moral compass, passed away on May 8, 2024. Born in Easley, SC, to Tom and Minnie Garrett, Joe led a life filled with love, integrity, and dedication to his family and country.

Throughout his life, Joe exemplified the values of honesty and clarity. His no-nonsense approach to life meant that those around him always knew where they stood. Joe's heart was filled with immense love and compassion despite his straightforward demeanor. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who showed a willingness to help themselves—a true testament to his kind and generous spirit.

One of Joe's proudest accomplishments was his service in the United States Army. His time in the Army and later in the Army Reserves filled him with pride, knowing he was serving his country with honor and dedication. Joe's commitment to his military service reflected his deep-rooted sense of duty and loyalty.

Beyond his military service, Joe found joy in various hobbies and interests. He had a passion for golf, fishing, and basketball as a player and a coach in the old mill leagues. These pursuits brought him happiness and cherished memories shared with friends and loved ones.

Above all else, Joe treasured his family. His love for his sons knew no bounds; they were the pride of his life. As a father, Joe learned the art of tenderness over time and took great delight in witnessing his sons' growth and achievements. As a husband, Joe enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, Barbara, and the family they created together.

Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara Garrett; his sons, Brian and Joseph Garrett; his grandchildren, Gregory Garrett, Elaina Garrett, and Ryland Garrett; and one great-grandchild, Bentley Garrett. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Richardson, Joyce James (Tommy), and Melissa Garrett, and his sister-in-law Pat Garrett.
