Joe was a long-time member of The Mount Church in Clemson where he sang in the choir for years and served as a deacon. He started working at La France Mill when he was 16 years old and retired from the same work place 47 years later.

A man of great faith, "Papa Joe" spoke openly about his relationship with Jesus Christ and life??s journey with anyone who would sit and cherish the time. In the community he was known as the "tomato man" for he grew and sold tomatoes to many in the area. He was also known as the man with the firm hand shake, sometimes a little too firm. If you ever shook his hand you know what we mean. This world is better for his humble place in it.

Receiving of friends and family will be Sunday, November 27 from 6-8:30pm at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central. Funeral services will be at The Mount Church on Monday at 3pm with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens. Rev. Josh Culver and Rev. Richard Burgess will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Mount Church, 827 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC 29631.
