Joe A. Ivester

Joe Arial Ivester, 87, of Greenville passed away Monday, January 30, 2012.
Born in Greenville on September 21, 1924, he was a son of the late W.A. and Nannie S. Ivester. Mr. Ivester was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Ivester served his country as a member of the US Army during the occupation after World War II. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1941 and graduated from Clemson University in 1947 where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He was a former president of Ivester Electric Company, Inc., a business started by his father in 1927. Mr. Ivester was president of Crescent Supply Company, Inc., from 1973 until last year when his health began to decline.
Mr. Ivester was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, the Poinsett Club and the Greenville Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jane B. Ivester; a son, Tom L. Ivester (Ann) of Greer; a step-son, Moses I. Moore (Darah) of Bozeman, Montana; two step-grandchildren and a special and devoted friend, Jimmy Arnold of Greenville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ivester was predeceased by his daughter, Lydia Caroline Ivester, brothers, William S. Ivester, Sr., and Jack Ivester, a sister, Betty I. Freeman and by a nephew, Bill Ivester, Jr.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Rose Wilson, Leah Ross and Jim Frost of Interim Hospice.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Markley Chapel of Christ Church Episcopal. The family will receive friends in the Arrington Room of the church immediately following the service.
Committal will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Foundation of Greenville, 27 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or the charity of choice.
