Joel N. Hinton, 94, husband of the late Mary Elizabeth LeRoque Hinton, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Emeritus of Greenville.

Born in Pickens, Mr. Hinton was a son of the late Olar Thompson Hinton, Sr., and the late Lois Newton Hinton. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and was employed by Duke Power Company for forty years. Mr. Hinton has been an active member of the Duke Power-ful Retiree Volunteer Association since his retirement, working with Meals On Wheels and Miracle Hill. He was member of John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a step-son, Robert Anderson (Anne) of Elon, NC; step-grandchildren, Mary Margaret Cagno (Gregg) of Philadelphia, PA, Robert Anderson (Brooke) of Alexandria, VA and Sean Anderson of Elon, NC; a sister, Martha Pickens Dunn (Sam) of Pickens; and a sister-in-law, Pinkie Hinton of Pickens. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hinton was predeceased by three brothers, Trescott Hinton, Olar Hinton, Jr. (Red) and Calhoun H. Hinton, and a sister, Corrinne Isley.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Sunrise Cemetery, East Cedar Rock Street, Pickens, with Rev. Joseph Gaston officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 PM Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, prior to the service.
