Joel Landrum Richardson, 88, of Clemson, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Clemson Downs Healthcare.
Mr. Richardson was born on July 30, 1920, in Hartwell, GA, the son of the late George Landrum Richardson and Lena McCurry Richardson. He received his BS from Clemson College in Textile Engineering in 1942 and earned an MS from NC State University in 1960. He moved his family to Clemson in 1948 to join Clemson College in the Textile Engineering Department where he taught at his beloved Clemson University for 33 years.
Mr. Richardson was a long time RV camper that saw 46 of the lower 48 states on camping trips. He was also an avid tennis player who truly enjoyed life at Clemson and raising his family there. He enjoyed his winter time visits to Estero, FL, at their little home there. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Clemson.
Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his son Joel Kenneth Richardson (1991) and his sister Frances Eleanor Richardson Fortson, and is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mabel Brown Richardson; son George Edward Richardson and wife, Dee; grandchildren, Jason Kenneth Richardson and wife Erin, Joel Dean Richardson, Lisa Michelle Richardson Overby, Elizabeth Ann Richardson Mendoza; and two great-granddaughters, Taylor Ann Mendoza and Kenlee Hayes Richardson.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Clemson with Rev. Dr. Rusty Brock officiating. Private committal services will be in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1 PM until 2 PM.
