Joey Lee Wilson

Joey Lee Wilson passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, and will be remembered as a loving and devoted family man, a hardworking painter, and a spirited presence whose humor and energy left a lasting mark on those around him.

Joey graduated from Easley High School and went on to build a life through honest work, owning and operating Liberty Painting. Painting was more than his livelihood; it was part of how he saw himself, and he often identified with the simple phrase, “I’m just a painter.” He remained dedicated to his work throughout his life and continued working regularly, even working the Monday before he went to the hospital. That steadfastness reflected the determination and grit that those who knew him recognized so well.

Outside of work, Joey embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved fishing at nearby lakes, including Fire Lake, and enjoyed motorcycles and races. He liked to travel and was always ready for a trip, especially when it meant time with the people he loved most. Since the previous June, he and his family had gone on four cruises together, making memories that will now be treasured all the more. He also enjoyed dinner shows and trips to Medieval Times. Joey was involved with the church, Second Chance, and he carried into many parts of his life the same mix of heart, humor, and persistence that defined him so well.

Joey was known for being spontaneous, for enjoying plans made on the fly, and for bringing laughter wherever he went. He was a jokester who liked to tease and stir people up, and his playful spirit became one of the signatures of his life. Family will remember him enjoying conversations with telemarketers just for the fun of it, and for mischievously telling loved ones that he had bad news before revealing the joke. Those moments, small and ordinary as they may have seemed at the time, now stand as precious reminders of the warmth and personality he shared so freely.

At the center of Joey’s life was his family. He and his wife, Katie Wilson, shared 38 years of marriage, a bond built across decades of love, companionship, and shared experiences.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 38 years, Katie Alexander Wilson, are his son, Michael Wilson (Christina); two daughters, Heather Michelle Wilson Reed (Zach) and Abigail "Abbey" Paige Wilson; nine grandchildren, Carl Bentley Moore IV, Cash Moore, Forrest Moore, Carver Moore, Grayson Moore, Shelby Reed, Kylie Wilson, Maci Wilson, and Memphis Wilson; a brother, Roger Wilson (Marti); a sister, Genia Wilson O'Bryant (Dan); his in-laws, Sandra and John Malone, Bobbie Jo and Michael Stewart, and Michael Phillip and Beth Alexander; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Logan, Camden, Josie, Brandi, Jason, Dawson, Brooke and Jaxson.

In addition to his parents, Joe Donnie Wilson and Winfred Ann Hamilton Wilson, he was preceded in death by a sister, Silvia Wilson.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on September 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. A funeral service will be held on September 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. Entombment will follow in the Glen Vista Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Joey Lee Wilson lived with devotion, humor, and a readiness to enjoy the next outing, the next laugh, and the next moment with family. His work, his wit, and the love he gave so generously will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
