Johanna Brakebill Jett McGlothlin, 67, of Pinnacle Lane, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at her home.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Ms. McGlothlin was a daughter of the late Richard Burch Jett, Jr. and the late Beulah Ruth Brakebill Jett. She received her B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee in 1969 where she also received her J.D. in 1984. In law school, Johanna was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Like many of her colleagues, Johanna came to the law as her second profession. She worked as a teacher in both the primary and secondary schools of Buchanan, Virginia and in Cumberland County, North Carolina. In 1980, Johanna returned to East Tennessee to pursue a long-standing goal of becoming a lawyer, which she did while raising 2 small children on her own.

Upon graduation from law school, Johanna associated with the law firm of Arnett, Draper & Hagood, where she became a partner in 1991. She joined Knoxville Bar Association (KBA) in 1984, was a member of KBA Board of Governors, Treasurer; President-Elect 1995; President 1996. Ms. McGlothlin was also a member of the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) where she was a Member of Commission on Women & Minorities in the Profession; American Bar Association (ABA), Member of Hamilton Burnet Inns of Court for 5 years; Associate General Counsel to TBA-Since 1994. She was instrumental in the formation of the KBA "Minorities in the Law" Committee in 1990, which was charged with encouraging minority law students and lawyers to succcessfully pursue legal careers within the public and private sector of the Knoxville legal community. After retiring from Arnett, Draper & Hagood in 2000, she worked from 2002 until 2006 at the Legal Aid Society of East Tennessee. In 1996, she received the YMCA Tribute to Women in Business and Government.

Mrs. McGlothlin was a member of Easley First United Methodist Church. She was a Guardian Ad Litem Volunteer. Johanna was an avid reader, and she enjoyed socializing with family and friends, but her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Julia McGlothlin Stogoski (Eric) of Washington, DC, and Anna McGlothlin Goodwin (Eric) of Easley; a brother, Richard Burch Jett III (Nancy) of Powell, TN; a sister, Julia Jett Reedy (Allen) of Madisonville, TN; and five grandchildren, Julia Elizabeth Goodwin, Sally Shuler Goodwin, John Charles Stogoski, Samuel Thomas Stogoski, and Anna Theresa Stogoski.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Easley First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rodney Powell officiating.

The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:45PM Saturday in the Church Fellowship Hall.
