John J. Barrett, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his home.

Born in Buffalo, NY on July 12, 1917, he was the son of the late James Richmond and Lillian Clark Barrett. He was of the Catholic faith.

He retired from ADT (American District Telegraph Co.) after 42 years of service as Regional Services and Operations Manager. In retirement, he was a volunteer for AARP serving as an Assistant State Director for four years and as State Coordinator for Health Advocacy Services for five years. He attended the Clemson Retired Men's Group at the Ramada Inn for morning coffee on a regular basis until his health declined. He enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada and attended eighty elderhostel programs.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Jeanne M. Barrett; a son, John J. Barrett, Jr.; a daughter, Mary Lou Donnelly both of Long Island, NY; step-daughters, Virginia Starks of Beaufort, NC and Janet Kilgore of Macon, GA; and a step-son, Lawrence Gaugler of Moorehead City, NC; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 14, 2010 in the chapel of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Clemson. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the church.

The family is deeply appreciative of friends and neighbors for their love, generosity and support during this time of loss, especially for Teresa Daniel who was always there for us. The assistance of Interim Hospice was invaluable during his final days.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or charity of one's choice.
