John R. Cobb

John R. Cobb, Sr., 87, widower of Helen Ophelia Shirley Cobb, passed away, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.

JR was born in Central, a son of the late Furman Leroy and Lois Fletcher Cobb. He was a graduate of Seneca High School and attended Furman where he played football for two years. He then enlisted in the Army and was an US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He retired as a materials manager with Homelite in Greenville. JR was a woodworker and a jack of all trades.

Surviving are children, John R. Cobb, Jr. of Simpsonville, Michael Cobb of Ninety-Six, Shirley Bell of Bishopville, Myra Davis of Greenville, and Charlotte Babson (David) of Ash, NC; half-sisters, Gloria Smith of Saluda, SC and Betty Johns of Greenwood; grandchildren, Zack Babson, Erica B. Segura, John Davis, Spencer Davis, Joe Bell, Graham Cobb, Grace Tinsley, Coursey Lindsey, Ellen Cobb, Roland Cobb and Christine Cobb; and great grandchildren, Ellie Segura, Grayson Segura, Franklin Tinsley and Duncan Lindsey.

In addition to his wife and parents, JR was predeceased by his son, Roger Owen; brother, James Cobb; and sisters, Ophelia Lantgios and Mary Ann Shirley.

Graveside services will be 2 PM, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice, McCall Hospice House.
