John C. Cobb, Sr.

John Carlyle Cobb, Sr., 81, of 102 Pine Ridge Drive, went to be with the Lord Tuesday January 5, 2010 at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Joann McCall Cobb, of the home and he was the proud father of his children, John C. Cobb, Jr., of Atlanta, Gail King and her husband, Phillip, of Easley and Karen Harvey and her husband, Gernon, of Blowing Rock, NC ; a sister, Sue Crews and her husband, Herbert, of Greenville ;
"Papa Cobb" was adored by his grandchildren, Melinda Jo Savage and her husband, David, of Greenville, Mandy King Norris and her husband, Patrick, of Mt Pleasant, Dr. Chuck King and his wife, Wendy, of Easley, Joey Painter, of Greer, Dusty Painter and his wife, Betsay, of Charleston, Carly Painter, of Linville, NC, Wesley Painter, of Greensboro, NC, Valarie Painter, of Charleston, Dana Harvey, of Asheville, NC and Sara Harvey, of Boone, NC.
One of the greatest joys of his later life was his great-grandchildren, McCall King, Kendall Gail Norris and Charles Patrick Norris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Jo Cobb.
Mr. Cobb was born in Cateechee, SC, a son of the late Warren W. and Lillian Morrow Cobb. He was a 1945 graduate of Liberty High School and a member of the 1949 graduating class of Clemson University. He supported the Easley High School Golf Team where he spent many hours encouraging the young people. His fondest past-time was fishing with his son-in-law, Phil, his grandson, Chuck and his daughter, Gail on their boat named "Two Papa's". He was an active volunteer in community service.
Mr. Cobb was a long time active member of Easley First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon Emeritus and a former Sunday School Teacher.
Memorial Services will be 3:00 PM Thursday at Easley First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. John Adams and the Reverend Rick Baumgarner officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service, in the narthex at the church.
The family is at the home.
