John Patrick (Pat) Fulmer �?" - Clemson, SC
John Patrick (Pat) Fulmer, 87, of 746 Berkeley Dr., Clemson, SC passed away after a brief illness of July 4th, 2011.
Born June 21, 1924, he was the son of the late CL and Julia Fulmer in Augusta, GA. As a WWII Navy Veteran, Pat served in the European and South Pacific Theatre. Pat graduated from Clemson University, where he later became a Professor of Horticulture. During his 37 year tenure at Clemson, he developed the Ornamental Gardens, the predecessor to the SC Botanical Garden. These gardens originally housed an extensive Orchid collection, the Trial gardens, and over 350 Camellia varieties. He helped draft a Turf Management research series which later became a degree program at Clemson. Pat loved teaching, but later found great enjoyment and fulfillment working with Clemson�??s Extension Program. Through the Ext. program, he contributed to the development of a tri-state nurseryman�??s association, which later became the Southeastern Nurseryman�??s Association. After retirement, Pat was invited to serve 6 years as the Director of Gardens at the Baha�??i World Center in Haifa, Israel. Pat considered this as the pinnacle of his career, and he actively served the Clemson Baha�??i community sharing his experience in these gardens. Pat was a proud member of the illustrious Golden Tiger Alumni and a die-hard Clemson fan. He served many years as an active member of the Lions Club.
Pat leaves many family members and friends that will miss him, which include, his wife of 63 years Carolyne, daughters Paige Massey (Bill) and Joy Dyer (Mike) and 5 grandchildren and 5 great grand-children.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Tuesday July 5th, 2011 at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10am, Wednesday, July 6th in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Clemson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the SC Botanical Gardens or the charity of your choice.
