John Smith Graham, Sr. �?" Clemson
John Smith Graham, Sr., 94, died August 2, 2011, at National HealthCare in Mauldin.
One of eight children of the late Emma Timmerman and William Mood Graham, he is survived by three children, Elaine Graham Heller (Bob) of Clemson, John S, Graham, Jr., (Cynthia) of Raleigh NC, and Betty Graham Shewfelt (Rob) of Forsyth GA; 7 grandchildren, Robert G. Heller Jr. (Alice) of Clemson, Richard G. Heller (Lorie) of Spartanburg, Nathan Ripperton of Seattle WA, Isabelle Graham of Raleigh NC, Mandy Graham, Ben Graham, and Jennifer Noel Graham of Honea Path; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Bernice Bigby Graham, a son, Robert W. Graham, and by 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
A 1943 graduate of Clemson Agricultural College, he remained at Clemson as a member of the faculty before moving to the US Department of Agriculture.
Graveside services will be conducted at Woodland Cemetery (Cemetery Hill) in Clemson on Monday, August 8, at 1:00 p.m. .
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be offered to First Baptist Church of Clemson, 397 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631, his church home for nearly 70 years, or to a charity of choice.
