John Hendrix Hawkins, 73, husband of Pat Maddox Hawkins for 51 years, passed away at his home on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Pickens County a son of the late Harold Gaines and Eva Irene Crane Hawkins. He was a retired battalion chief for the Clemson University Fire Department for 33 years and was a member of Cross Road Church of God.

From the time he was diagnosed with cancer, John's prayer was for God's will to be done. He was an inspiration to many.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Mark (Tina) Hawkins of Seneca; daughter, Sheri Hawkins (Tammy Jordan) of Phoenix, AZ; a special friend, Stoney Bachman of North, SC; a brother, Benjamin Joe (Norma) Hawkins of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Barbara (Julian) Leroy and Rachael Hawkins of Liberty; two grandchildren, Tara (Ricky) Patterson and Jordan Hawkins; two great grandchildren, Tucker and Levi Patterson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Aleatha Smith.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 22, 2014, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Interim Hospice and a special thanks to Tara and Ricky Patterson for the care given to John during his illness.
