John E. Holcombe, Jr.

December 3, 1926 — December 5, 2024

Easley, South Carolina

John E. “Junior” Holcombe, Jr., 98, of Easley, loving husband of Rema Vaughn Holcombe, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Born in Liberty, South Carolina, he was a son of the late John E. Holcombe, Sr. and Della Alexander Holcombe. He graduated from Welcome High School, class of 1941. A proud veteran, John served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater in Japan. His experiences during this time shaped him into the caring and resilient man that so many came to admire. John’s professional life was dedicated to helping others as he worked for Liberty Life, where he established himself as a respected insurance salesman for many years. In his leisure time, John indulged his passions for gardening and tending to his farm. The act of nurturing plants and watching them flourish brought him peace and satisfaction. His beloved barn cats were constant companions, often joining him in his pursuits around the homestead. Fishing was another favorite pastime, offering him moments of tranquility and connection with nature. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He found immense joy in his family, always providing a warm embrace, a listening ear, and sage advice. His legacy lives on through the countless memories he created with his loved ones. He was a faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where he worked with the youth of the church, served as a Deacon, and was a part of the Men’s Bible Class. He also was the 4th of July Horseshoe Champion for many years.

In addition to his loving wife of 76 years, he is survived by two sons, Wayne Holcombe, and David Holcombe (Faye); a daughter, Debbie Holcombe; a sister, Anita Green; a sister-in-law, Louise Holcombe; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kathy Holcombe; four brothers, Earl Holcombe, Walter Holcombe, Harold Holcombe, and Bobby Holcombe; and four sisters, Etolia McDonald, Leola Satterfield. Jessie Mae “Jip” Garrison, and Bessie Moon.
