Dr. John William Hubbard, 90, of 102 Robin St., died Sunday, May 16, at Oconee Medical Center.

Dr. Hubbard was born in Clinton Co., KY, to Benjamin Austin and Lucy Maupin Hubbard. He earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture from Berea College, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky. He was a Professor of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Clemson University from 1961 until his retirement in 1987.

Prior to his employment at Clemson, Dr. Hubbard taught in the field of agriculture and served as a county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration in Missouri. He also served as a county agricultural extension agent for the University of Kentucky and worked several years as a farmer.

Dr. Hubbard was a prolific researcher in agricultural economics and was an early proponent of interdisciplinary research, coordinating his efforts with other departments at Clemson. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta, Lion's Club, and the Clemson First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.

Surviving are sons William R. Hubbard of Seneca, Stephen J. Hubbard of Clemson, brother James M. Hubbard of Charlottesville, VA, and grandchildren Nicole M. Hubbard, Benjamin R. Hubbard, and William T. Hubbard. Dr. Hubbard was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Foley Hubbard, brother, Benjamin A. Hubbard, and sister, Elizabeth H. Davidson.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Clemson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
