John William Baer, II, 93, husband of Agnes Tennesen Baer, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Alterra Sterling House in Central. A native of Buffalo, N.Y. he was the son of the late John William and Ruth Kaumeyer Baer.

John started his career at National Bisquit in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1942 he moved to Springville, N.Y. to operate a hatchery and farm. In 1951 he went back to manufacturing as plant manager for Wood & Brooks Co. in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1970 he moved his family to Clemson, S.C. as plant manager of Pratt Read & Co where he retired.

John was a wonderful loving Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather. Family gatherings at Christmas and birthdays were extremely important and special to him. He was a super gardener and grew lovely roses and vegetables. After moving to Clemson he became an avid golfer and was a true "Tiger" fan and supporter. John was a true inspiration to his family and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son, John William Baer, III and wife Margaret of Maryville, TN; daughters, Lois Blodgett and husband Jack of Central, Joan Krise of Syracuse, NY and Nancy Purnell and husband Matthew of Ft. Bragg, NC; brother, Chester Baer of Florida; 7 grandchildren: Cindy, Jerry, John IV, Michelle, Jefferey, Stephen and Jennifer and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Robert Baer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11-1 prior to the service. Interment will follow at a later date.
