On Monday, September 27, 2021, a golden heart stopped beating. John David Mauney, Jr., 70, husband of Laura Steele Mauney.
Born in Shelby, NC, a son of the late John David Mauney, Sr. and the late Bessie Malinda Newton, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, football, baseball, basketball, and spending time with family. He retired from JPS Slater as a plant manager after forty-three years of service and he was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, John David Mauney, III (Brandi) of McDonough, GA and James Robert Mauney (Jennifer) of Roswell, GA; daughters, Lindy LaMarco (Doug) of Auburn, GA, Windy Smith (Scott) of Powdersville, and Sandi Bruster of Greenville; sisters, Ann Painter (Randy) of Maiden, NC and Libby Chitwood (Gary) of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Kaylee, Kenni, Kaitlyn, Kennedy, Karson, Kourtney, Owen, Sylas, Wesley, Leela, Graham, and Logan; and great-grandchildren, Averi, Kynlee, Maddie, Kyler, and Eli.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Daniel Mauney.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. Scroll to the video player below to view the service. Entombment will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens Chapel of Reflections Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
