John Wess Outen, 47, of Easley, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026. He was born on November 22, 1978, in Savannah, GA, to Donna Smock Outen and the late Danny Joe Outen, he was known as John to some and Wess to others.
He worked alongside his brother, Danny, at JO Surfaces creating and installing countertops along with various other other home construction projects.
He lived a life defined by his profound appreciation for the outdoors and a relentless passion for nature. As an avid fisherman, he found solace and joy by the water’s edge, embracing the tranquility and beauty of the natural world.
John Wess was a man of remarkable character and many talents. He was known far and wide as a good listener, offering attentiveness and understanding to those fortunate enough to confide in him. His dedication and skill were evident in his construction endeavors—anything he set his mind to; he could accomplish with precision and care. Above all, John Wess was fiercely protective of his family, embodying a steadfast devotion that underscored every aspect of his life.
Beyond his practical skills, John possessed a very funny and engaging spirit, bringing lightness and laughter to those around him. His interests spanned a wide spectrum, including a deep fascination with history and a keen appreciation for antiques, which reflected his thoughtful nature and love for stories from the past.
Music also played an important role in John Wess' life, with classic country tunes, melodies offered comfort and a shared connection to tradition and memory.
Along with his mother, he is survived by daughters, Sarah Lynn Outen and Jessica Mae Outen (Hunter); grandchildren, Ava and Isaiah Page; sisters, Renea Cooler (Louis) and Lisa Cooler (Ricky); brother, Danny J. Outen (Judy D. Johnson); numerous loving extended family members; many friends and his fur companion, Buck.
The family is planning a memorial service at a later date and will be published when available.
John Wess Outen will be remembered with respect and admiration for the humility of his nature, the richness of his passions, and the unwavering love he held for his family. His legacy is one of strength, kindness, and the joyful pursuit of life’s simple and profound pleasures.
