John Jefferson Porter, 78, of 401 Red Maple Way went to join his Lord and Savior in Paradise, June 17, 2010.
Born in East Orange, NJ, he was a son of the late William Jackson and Inez Goodwin Porter. Dr. Porter earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Georgia Tech and was a professor of Textile Chemistry for 35 years at Clemson University. He was a member of Clemson Foothills Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Regina Suffi Porter; one son, John Porter Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two daughters, Maria Rogers and Scarlette Van Auken both of Boston, MA; one sister, Martha Hall of Atlanta, GA; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Porter.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, Central.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, June 22 at the Madren Center on the Clemson University Campus, 230 Madren Center Drive, Clemson, SC 29634 with a reception to follow.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Woodland Cemetery on the campus of Clemson University.
The family will miss him dearly until they see him again.
