John W. Rowland

October 3, 1926 — May 2, 2014

John William Rowland, 87, of 415 Penarth Drive and husband of Doris Ashley Rowland, passed away Friday May 2, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He and Mrs. Rowland celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on May 1, 2014.

Mr. Rowland was born in Honea Path, SC, the son of the late Robert Grover and Willie Fields Rowland. He worked for many years at J.P. Stevens & Company and retired from Dan River - Woodside Mill in Greenville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II and a member of Monaghan Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jan Rowland Scarborough and her husband, Barry, and Shelia Rowland Gantt and her husband Wesley, all of Easley; a sister, Agnes McCoy, of Belton; grandchildren, Kristin Gantt Gillespie (Jimmy), Keri Gantt, Travis Scarborough (Pamela), Stacy Scarborough Huff (Zach); 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step, great-grandchildren and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Carl Rowland and three sisters, Frances Treadwell, Ethel Segers and Emma Bohner.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, Easley. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 pm until 1:45 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

The family is at the residence.
