John Rollis Smith, 71, loving husband to Marlene Gilliam Smith for 43 years, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018, at his home.

Born in Atlanta, GA, a son to the late Robert Ellis Smith and Juanita Bowden Smith, Mr. Smith was a former land surveyor. He was the Camp 36 Commander and a 2nd Brigade Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also a lifetime member of the Parris Island Museum. He loved the Marine Corps, Little League baseball, and animal rescue.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Robert P., Robert R., and Matthew C; a daughter, Melissa; a sister, Deborah Likas; and 7 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in May.
