John A. Sommer, 91, husband of the late Avanell Stewart Sommer, and the late Zelma O'Shields Sommer, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Countryside Village in Easley.
Born in 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Sommer was the son of the late August and Cathryn Hamann Sommer. He worked as a mechanic in the motorpool while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the army, John was a truck driver for A&P for more than twenty years. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Teamsters in Pennsylvania. He attended Wayside Baptist Church in Easley.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy John Sommer (Teresa) of Macon, GA and Mark Stewart Sommer (Loretta) of Harmony, PA.; and a step-granddaughter, Stephanie Leathers.
Mr. Sommer was pre-deceased by his sister, Ruth Sheets; and a step-sister, Marie Sommer.
Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Easley.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the funeral home prior to the service.
