John Henry Stark, 89, of 135 Hickory Hollow Road, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Foothills Presbyterian Home.
Born in Platteville WI, a son of the late John and Lena Schell Stark, Mr. Stark
began his education at the Wisconsin School of Mines, later attending the Missouri School of Mines, where he earned his degree. John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II. He went on to pursue his career as a Mine Engineer, retiring from Stauffer Chemicals, in Florida. Mr. Stark was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving are his wife, Alpha Mary Monke Stark of the home; two sons, Michael John Stark (Mary Ann) of Shelby, NC; Dr. Stephen Henry Stark (Laura) of Hernando, FL; one daughter, Sharon Lee Stark (Dr. Jim Mahanes) of Pickens; five grandchildren, Amy Leigh Stark, Jonathan Bradley Stark, James Michael Stark, Jacquelin Rae Stark, and Chance Henry Mahanes; two great-grandchildren, Brody Samuel Stark and Luke Bradley Stark. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stark was predeceased by one brother and one sister.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Christie Gravely officiating.
